EKOS Consultation

We are pleased to say that the EKOS “Firearms Consultation” that was featured in our last newsletter has been transcribed by a Quebec volunteer, Mr. Paul Chicoine.  His efforts mean, that where once the file size was 6 MB and covered 102 printed pages, it is now only 32 printed pages and 241 KB in size.  It is now small enough to email to all RFOCBC members and post on this website.

Gary Mauser has written a critique of the EKOS survey and is attached.  Click here

We must remember a few things when viewing the survey. Click here

1)      It was sanctioned by the federal (Conservative) government.

2)      Not all assertions contained in the questions are true.  (such as ATT conditions)

3)      There is a presumption that the Firearms Act has positive societal effects.

When viewing the survey, one must also remember that the intents is, to use their own words, “We are seeking your views on two primary areas of concern:

- Ways to improve the effectiveness of prohibition measures intended to prevent individuals who may pose a danger to society from possessing or acquiring firearms.

- The implementation of a one-time licensing system that will maintain, and where necessary enhance, background and eligibility checks, safety training and safe storage requirements for firearms owners while improving efficiencies in the system.”

This survey AVOIDS ANY QUESTIONING OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE FIREARMS ACT AND CURRENT REGULARTORY REQUIREMENTS.

Also be aware that the survey was sent to many “groups” who would have no idea about Canada’s firearms laws.  Their responses – if they responded – would only have value as a knee-jerk, emotional perspective.
