PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Members:

The event we have been waiting for, since Bill C-68 was passed into law, is now with us -- the federal election.

The Liberal government must be called to account. As gun owners and concerned citizens, you must get involved. You have several decisions to make and you have very little time left.

  1. Whom can you support in your constituency?
  2. Are you prepared to donate your time and money?
  3. What do your sport and hobby mean to you?
  4. Have you informed your non-firearm owning friends what this legislation could mean for them, namely increased taxes and loss of freedoms?

The RFOC has accomplished many things since our inception and now it is up to you as members to decide if you feel the organization should continue to exist after the next federal election win, lose, or draw. You can do this by renewing your membership in the RFOC. Failure to do so will tell us that you are not interested and we will have no alternative but to close our doors.

Our membership has dropped to 50% paid up members. How many gun owners live in BC? We introduced a Political Action Fund in order to advertise our side of the story. We are asking every member who can afford it to donate $50 to this fund and please send it in immediately. Send less if you must, but send something.

Another Liberal government will soon end the sport that we have learned to enjoy and someday hoped to pass on to our children and grandchildren.

At the end of the election I will be able to say that I have done everything that I could possibly do to change this terrible legislation. Will you?

We are enclosing a petition to the Provincial government urging them to support the other western provinces in their constitutional challenge of Bill C-68, and also to refuse to implement the provisions. Please fill at least one page and return it to us by July 31, 1997. This will probably be the last shingle on the roof if the Liberals are returned to POWER.

Thank you sincerely for your past support.

Harry Sullivan President RFOC BC

YOU ENJOY SHOOTING?

I hope not because if the current Liberal government is re-elected this summer, shooting sports will probably become a thing of the past. If you think Bill C-68 is bad, wait till you see what Chretien, Rock and company have in store for us if they are re-elected! Bill C-68 is only the tip of the iceberg.

BILL C-68 IS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

What can we do to prevent this? First of all, every one of us has to work to support a party that opposes more gun control. Talk to the candidates in your riding then pledge your support to the one that you believe will do the most to fight these ridiculous anti-gun laws. However, one word of caution, if the Liberal candidate promises to oppose further anti-gun legislation, do not believe him or her. They may be well intentioned but Chretien will not let them go against party lines. Remember, Chretien has already punished members of his own party for not following orders. Interesting to note that in several cases recently, Chretien has refused to accept the Liberal nominated by the party members in some ridings and instead has appointed his choice for the candidate to represent the riding. If this is not dictatorship, I do not know what is! You can be sure that the candidates he has appointed will do exactly what he tells them.

What else can we do? Renew your membership in the RFOC and sign up your friends. We need all the help we can get and it costs a great deal of money to carry on the fight. Membership in the RFOC costs less than a box of center fire ammunition. Remember, if we lose this fight, you will not have to worry about spending money on ammunition. If the Liberals have their way, you probably will not have a gun to use.

This is probably our last chance. If the Liberals win the election expected this June -- oh

well, -- stocks make good firewood and barrels make good pokers.

It’s up to you. If you cannot be bothered to fight back, who do you think will???

Editorial by Jack McCollum RFOC Member

Did you know…..

…. Rock’s department commissioned a survey to "establish if gun control made Canada a safer society." Subsequent requests for a copy of the findings were refused. Inside sources informed Garry Breitkreuz MP that the Justice Department did not make the results public because they were not supportive of the Liberal Government position on gun control.

…since 1946, in Britain the number of firearms surrendered in the course of many amnesties must, by this date, be well in excess of one million, and that despite over fifty years of the most stringent controls charts and graphs have shown the criminal use of firearms has risen steeply. "Firearms controls do not appear to have stopped this class of criminal from obtaining a gun when he felt that he could use one," says Chief Inspector Colin Greenwood of the West Yorkshire constabulary. Could it be that the politicians are actually aware of the true state of affairs, but fear for their own skins. Could be, after all, they have consistently failed to recognize shooters as amongst the most ardent supporters of law and order.

...anyone happen to see our Minister for External Affairs scuttling across a Bosnia field escorted by two troopers complete with M16’s at the ready. The look on his face denoted, at the very least, extreme anxiety. The thought occurred that these people make sure they provide themselves with the protection they deny to you and me. (Even Rock has an armed bodyguard provided him, and paid for with your tax dollars.) The amused expression on the faces of the troopers was most gratifying. In the presence of real people, these elitists are cut right down to size. Leaving the sheltered world of Parliament must be nothing short of traumatic; no way to manipulate the stuff that flies about in such places.
